How much does it cost?

IELTS test fees vary from country to country. Your IDP Education student counsellor will advise the test fee for your country in your local currency, or contact your nearest test centre. The IELTS test fee is the same for both versions of the test (Academic and General Training).

What skills are tested in the IELTS exam?

The four language skills tested are: Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening.

What are the pass marks for IELTS?

There are no pass marks in IELTS. Your performance in each section will be rated on a band scale of 1 to 9. All educational institutions set their own minimum IELTS scores eligibility.

How many times can a candidate appear for the test?

An aspirant can retake the test multiple times until he/she doesn’t get their target scores.

What is the duration of the test?

The test duration is two hours and forty-five minutes. The Listening (30 minutes), Reading (60 minutes) and Writing (60 minutes) test are conducted on the same day however, the Speaking interview (11-14 minutes) may or may not take place on the same day.

What if I need to postpone or cancel my IELTS test?

Please contact the test centre where you booked your IELTS test. If you postpone or cancel your application more than 5 weeks before the test date, you will receive a refund minus an administration charge. If you postpone or cancel within 5 weeks of the test date, you will be charged the full fee unless you have a medical reason. If you are unable to attend due to a serious medical condition and provide a medical certificate within 5 days of the test date, you will receive a refund minus the local administrative cost. If you are delayed by circumstances beyond your control (e.g. a transport strike) the test centre may offer you a test on the next available test date.
